"The Cure" is a story about the development of the first drug for the Pompe disease (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/pompe/pompe.htm). I learned about this book because of one of the developer, Dr. Yuan- Tsong Chen (陳垣崇), was sponsored by 台泥, and thus the success of the drug made a great fortune for the company and made a great news at that time (~2006). The author, Geeta Anand , a Pulitzer Prize-winner and a WSJ journalist, vividly described the story of the Crowley family. The young father, John Crowley, a Harvard business school graduate, jumped into the world of drug development without any medical background to develop the cure for his two kids. It could be said to be another "Lorenzo's Oil". BTW, Lorenzo has passed away in May this year. The story is profoundly moving to me, and provided a great clue for me, who is facing the question of career planning. 在高雄的最後兩個星期看了兩本魔幻玄妙的小說 (其中一本應該說是故事集才是) 一本是諾貝爾文學獎得主Gabriel Marquez的百年孤寂 一本是大家都聽過的中東豪洨故事集天方夜譚 (就是一千零一夜啦!) 百年孤寂一書是充滿栩栩如生畫面的虛構小說 作者Marquez真是講述故事跟具體化的高手 在充滿想像力的世界中把一個詭異的家族史講完 讓我不由得聯想到JoJo冒險野郎 兩者在某種程度上真是有極大的相似度 反正結論就是百年孤寂還真的不錯看啦 很能引人入勝 是不需要做什麼事前的準備功課就可以輕鬆讀完的大師作品 而且很適合愛幻想的人 在看這本書的時候 我一直想到颱風來之前黃昏天空的詭異天色 --> 應該是因為這本書的魔幻風格就像那樣的不尋常的光影對比一樣 讓人覺得時空錯亂 天方夜譚是我一直都很想看的 因為總覺得把這本故事集看完可以了解一些中東文化吧 沒想到這本書的內容居然是豪洨到如此的程度 故事中又有故事又有故事又有故事 一個故事看到最後早就忘了原本的起頭了@@ 而且內容超級沒有印象中伊斯蘭的嚴格禮俗 充滿偷情、騙局、金銀財寶跟酒池肉林的商人生活 似乎是要宣洩過分壓抑的社會規範一樣 總之天方夜譚是不適合給小孩子看的-.-|| 而且現在我才知道原來阿拉丁是中國人啊...
